One-Two-Cha-Cha-Cha

People learning to dance at a social dancing party, cha-cha.

The steady, energetic rhythm of the cha-cha dance spread from its original home in Cuba and across the world’s dance floors in the 1950’s. This month, studio members can join the global fun at Fred Astaire Dance Studio in downtown Boise!

One of the five main Latin ballroom dances commonly taught in modern dance studios, the steps of the cha-cha will feel familiar to students who have danced the rumba and mambo. The partner dance features small, compact steps in time to a steady 4/4 beat …with plenty of hip movement!

Did You Know?

Some say that the name of the cha-cha comes from a vocal imitation of the shuffling sounds dancers’ shoes make during cha-cha footwork.

Another theory is that the name comes from the sound made by small rattles, created from Cha Cha plant seed pods, which were used as an instrument or metronome during music and dancing!

Join the Fun!

With simple footwork and lots of energy, the cha-cha is a fun and lively dance that will get you moving and is perfect for dancers of all levels.

Bring a partner or find one on the dance floor, this class will be one you don’t want to miss!

The cha-cha is the studio member group class on Dec. 22. Ring in the holidays with this festive and fun dance experience!

Haven’t visited the studio yet but want to join the party? You’ll fit right in with our welcoming dance family! Sign up for an introductory private lesson or give us a call at (208) 514-0440 to schedule your first session!
